I tend to paint most of my male figures a kind of platinum blonde. My painting style is a lot more simple than, let’s say a realistic portrait painter’s. Hence one might be surprised to see that the strokes are swift and rather simple.
In creating the ‘dynamic’ and free-spirited effect, strokes of hair and clothes are rendered in this simple way.
With acrylics, it is possible to finish a head of hair in no time. The paint dries rather quickly so I go over the head several time after each layer of paint has set.
I start by painting the figure bald. This way, the effect of the hair renders more flowing and 3D and looks less plastered.Use a graphite stick to outline quickly the flow of hair on the head. |
Using white color, I paint clumps of hair following the graphite outline. |

Final touch of color with some shadows from the surrounding purple. THis gives the hair some vibrance of complemetary colors, and depth. The hair is now complete. For this impressionist style, details are enough. |
