This is the second tutorial on painting hair. This is a step-by-step, quick painting method I use of painting figures with black hair.
The strategy is slightly different from that of blonde hair, but the method of painting in layers is the same.
I start by painting the figure bald. This way, the effect of the hair renders more flowing and 3D and looks less plastered.Use a graphite stick to outline quickly the flow of hair on the head. |
In this composition, the lady figure has her head hanging back. Taking note of the position and tilt of the head, draw the lines dynamically moving in the direction of gravity. |

I have allowed some strands of hair to be wedged between her shoulders and the man’s hand. |
Keep painting with black, strands of hair in layers. |

At this point, one may add highlights using white paint, and/or yellow tints for sun shine. |

This is a relatively simple way to paint hair fast. I like to keep my paintings as simple as possible. Others migh like to add more detail. Whatever the style of painting, it is most important to have a unique style and confident strokes.
